was a vital imperial palace and residence for many emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. There is so much more to Nuremberg than its poignant past. A stroll through the alleys and along the historic city walls will reveal a vibrant city brimming with atmosphere and flair. The inner city, divided into two parts by the Pegnitz, is encircled by a wall completed in 1452, and the older, inner line of fortifications, dating from 1140 and 1320, can still be traced.
